SSL Certificate Validity Update – Industry Requirement

The industry is moving towards shorter SSL/TLS certificate lifespans to enhance security and support faster cryptographic updates, Certificate Authorities (CAs) are reducing the maximum validity period of SSL certificates.

New Validity Period: Certificates will now be valid for 199 days (~6 months) instead of 397 days.
This change is mandated by the CA/Browser Forum and applies across the industry. It helps minimize risks from compromised keys and ensures quicker adoption of evolving security standards.

Key points:

  • Your SSL Certificate Order Remains Valid – no need to re-purchase even shorten certificate renewal period.
  • Certificate Renewal Every 6 Months – It is simple, just re-issue and re-install your certificate in your account, at no additional cost
Effective Dates:
  • DigiCert (RapidSSL): 24 February 2026
  • Sectigo (Comodo): 14 March 2026
